Be like Water…

“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend”

One day as I’m laying in bed reading a book (The Richest Man in Babylon), I noticed a small critter crawling near my pillow. I was confused how it managed to reach my pillow, yet alone the top of my bed, but I was intrigued by its presence. I had no desire of harming this creature, but I didn’t want the damn thing near me. Instead of smashing this life form, I tried leading it away, placing my finger in its path to redirect its course. This is when discovered another beauty to life!

See this critter was determined to reach its desired destination, and placing my finger in its path did nothing. The critter simply moved around it. This annoyed me, because the closer this critter got to my pillow, the more my fingered appeared in its face, trying my hardest to redirect this creature off my bed. The critter remained focused, and when an obstacle reappeared, it simply moved around it.

We should all be more like this critter. When times get tough, instead of complaining about life and its obstacles, we should simply look for a path around them. If we remain focused and determined, eventually we will reach our desired destination!
